BSA hits Middlesex gambling firm with £45,000 in settlement and costs

The Business Software Alliance (BSA) continues its legal war against companies using unlicensed software with a gambling company being caught on the wrong side of the law costing it £45,000.

The Middlesex-based gaming and betting company Global Draw was forced to pay a settlement to the BSA of £20,000 as well as spending £25,000 to get its Microsoft software legal.

The BSA continues to clock up settlements with firms that fail to pay for the use of software and Michala Wardell, chair of the UK BSA Committee, said that despite the high profile consequences firms still took risks not paying for applications.

"Unfortunately this is not the first time an established business has been caught out for not having their IT assets in order," she said.

"Disregarding intellectual property laws to chase cost savings in the short-term will always lead to more harm than good," she added.

The BSA, in a similar move to fellow organisation FAST, has been actively encouraging users to report suspected companies for flouting licensing laws
